Sedation Dentistry FAQ
What is sedation dentistry?
Sedation dentistry uses medication to help patients relax during dental treatment. At Sleep Dentists, Dr. Hesham Sherghin offers a range of sedation options at Village Walk Family Dental in London, Ontario, so patients can receive care comfortably whether they have dental anxiety, a low pain threshold, or need a longer or more complex procedure completed in fewer visits.
Is sedation dentistry safe?
Yes. Sedation dentistry is a well-established practice, and every patient is carefully screened beforehand. Vital signs are monitored throughout treatment, and the type and level of sedation are matched to each patient’s health history and the procedure being performed.
What types of sedation are available?
IV sedation or general anesthesia, depending on the level of anxiety or the complexity of treatment. Dr. Sherghin will recommend the right option during a consultation.
Will I be asleep during my appointment?
Yes, for the most part. Deeper sedation can feel like sleep, with little or no memory of the procedure afterward. This will be explained clearly before treatment begins.
Am I a candidate for sedation dentistry?
Does insurance cover sedation dentistry?
Can I drive myself home afterward?
You’ll need someone to drive you home and, ideally, stay with you for a few hours as the medication wears off.
How do I get started?
Contact us to book a consultation. Dr. Sherghin will review your health history, discuss your concerns, and recommend the sedation option that’s right for you.
